In Coincidences or connections?
We know that Walter Raleigh of Sherborne has quite a major connection to the Virginia Colony. We also know that there are many connections between Bruton and Virginia and Carolina i.e. The Berkeley family and their cousins the Ludwell famil, Bruton Parish Church etc. in Williamsburg. Given the Hatcher's living in the area AND the fact that many Hatchers did emigrate from Dorset to the USA/ Canada. Is it possible that there is a connection to William that has not been found? Both Bruton and Sherborne are within a morning's walk from Marnhull

In Coincidences or connections?
The "Marnhull book" a history of Marnhull mentions the Hatcher family quite extensively including the fact that the Hatcher family produced "Tobacco products". This immediately piqued my interest as the Hatcher family in the USA were exporting tobacco. Despite extensive research I have been unable to find any connection between the exporter and importer sides of the Atlantic. It would be interesting if anyone has ANY information that might make a connection.

In Coincidences or connections?
Sophia was born 1816 at CORBY(sic) Lincolnshire according to the census Sophia was christened 1816 at LENTON Lincolnshire. Info from Lincoln Archives "There is reference to a Sophia, daughter of William & Elizabeth Tomlin being baptised in 1816 at Lenton. This is the closest lead both by date and location." Sophia and William HATCHER (the son of James HATCHER and Sarah RUSSELL) were married 29 Sep 1840 at CROSCOMBE Nr SHEPTON MALLET Somerset. William was employed 26 Oct 1842 at CROSCOMBE Nr SHEPTON MALLET Somerset. as a Wheelwright. William was employed 1871 as A Master Wheelwright, according to the census. William signed a will 19 Sep 1888. William died 20 Dec 1891 at BATH Somerset. He was a widower living with his son John Hatcher: William was buried 24 Dec 1891 at CROSCOMBE Nr SHEPTON MALLET Somerset. Question 1) Why did Sarah travel from Lincolnshire to Somerset to get married? Question 2) Does this mean that there was some link between the Lincolnshire Hatcher familyand the west-country HATCHER family?

Records tell us that Thomas HATCHER and Jane HUSSEY (the daughter of Sir Charles HUSSEY ) were married 1704 at St Mary Le Strand London. Thomas died 06 Sep 1714. Thomas was buried 10 Sep 1714 at CAREBY Lincolnshire. Records also tell us that the Lords of the manor at MARNHULL Dorset and thus landlords to the Hatcher family were the HUSSEY family? Coincidence or is there a connection between the two families?
